Spider-Men: KISS Opener Offers Web Of Intrigue

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit 13th row, dead center for the opening of a tour-opening Kiss concert? Well, you can experience the shock and awe vicariously with our video from the incredible opening sequence of the band’s concert Monday at USANA Amphitheatre in West Valley City.

Kiss has a standard opening introduction: “You wanted the best, you got the best! The hottest band in the world ... Kiss!” Hot indeed, as a cacophony of explosions, pillars of fire and smoke typically accompany the band onstage.

Monday’s opening was especially incendiary and over-the-top as all the band members were elevated high above the stage -- drummer Eric Singer on his own riser while bassist Gene Simmons, and guitarists Paul Stanley and Tommy Thayer riding atop the lighting rig which was in the shape of a giant spider. The spider rig’s “legs” buckled down, bringing the three to the stage as the band launched into “Kings of the Night Time World” and invited a soldout audience into their parlor for the evening.

Whether you like the Kiss’ music or not, one has to give it up for the band’s outrageous concert openings, and sparing no expense to give fans a thrilling stage show.
