Joliet Superfan Organizes KISS Expo

There probably won’t be any fire-breathing or spitting of blood at the Holiday Inn on Larkin Avenue next month — then again, there could be.

The Kiss Chicago Superfan Expo will be held at the hotel, 411 S. Larkin Ave., from noon to 8 p.m. June 9, with everything a Kiss fan could want to see and hear, except for the actual band members.

The expo is organized by Joliet native Jim Frangella, a member of the band’s fan club, the Kiss Army.

“I’ve seen Kiss on almost every tour that they’ve been on through the Chicagoland area. I have met all of the (band) members, with and without makeup,” he said. “There’s no other band in the world like this because they have all the pyrotechnics, the makeup and the stage show and it’s just the most exciting band I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Frangella aims to bring that excitement to the expos he coordinates, including vendors selling Kiss memorabilia, tribute bands, raffles and contests.
The Joliet expo this year is set to include appearances by the Gene Simmons Axe Bass tour bus and its driver, Paul Heyland; Ace Frehley’s stunt double from 1978 television movie “Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park”; Joliet Kiss tribute band, “Psycho Circus”; webmaster Keith Leroux; and 105.5 “The Kat” radio personality, “Freak.”
There will also be a raffle for a new Punisher 2 bass guitar signed by Gene Simmons.
Admission will cost $15 at the door, while children age 12 and younger get in free.
Tickets are available in advance. To buy tickets or for more information, contact Jim Frangella,, or visit

Gene Simmons Family Jewels 2012: Why A New Baby Now? / Photo: Getty Images

"Gene Simmons Family Jewels" has the newlyweds Gene and Shannon working out how marriage is going to look for them. After being together for two decades, the two decided to tie the knot and now they need to work out the few bumps that weren’t fixed in their relationship just because they said "I do."

Shannon, who is usually the voice of reason in the Simmons household, is pushing to adopt a child now that their two kids are grown and gone. While bringing a new baby into the house might signify a new beginning for Gene and Shannon, she seems to be the only one thinking this way. Huliq suggests that Shannon and Gene might have too much to deal with already in their marriage without adding a baby to the mix.

Nick and Sophie think that adopting a baby is Shannon’s attempt at "doing over" her life with kids now that hers are grown. They want nothing to do with a new baby brother or sister. Gene is not feeling the adoption either; they’ve been there and done that already with two of their own, but he is open to listening to Shannon's thoughts.

Besides everyone up against Shannon’s idea of adoption, there’s too much work to be done on her relationship with Gene to throw a new baby into the mix. With Shannon finding out that Gene is still keeping porn pictures of himself and groupies in a safety deposit box, her trust level goes down even further than before. This is especially the case after Gene tries to tell her she knew about it years ago and she said he didn’t tell her this.

Bringing a new baby aboard won’t fix the things that need work in her relationship, but if you look back at how Shannon lived her life with Gene for the first twenty years, this might give you a hint at her possible train of thought on this. While Shannon was bringing up Sophie and NicK, she was distracted and what was going on with Gene was something she overlooked because of this.

Is Shannon subconsciously trying to put this back in place once again as a safeguard towards making her marriage work? She could be thinking this will give her and Gene one more reason for trying to make this work with a new baby in the house.

Bruce Kulick Remembers KISS Revenge On Its 20th Anniversary

To celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the release of REVENGE, all next week former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick will be doing a look back at the album, including thoughts about each track. Bruce writes:

"Revenge marked the return of KISS in what I considered to be top form. Not that previous albums I was involved in didn't have highlights and memorable songs and performances, but Revenge was truly meant to be just that... a way to say to all who thought that KISS may have lost its way that we got the goods and we take no prisoners.

It started with bringing back Bob Ezrin. Naturally he had some great success with KISS on Destroyer, but some say The Elder was not a good step for the band. No matter, here was a producer/songwriter who I felt had the ability, respect and a proven track record to make this new album a classic. That meant no compromise. The songs were carefully picked over. The performances had to be perfect. The lyrics had be pure KISS. Ezrin's vision with Gene and Paul was that this new album would be a shining star in the band's career."

KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge With Eric Singer; "I Was Getting The Opportunity To Play In KISS Now, But Under Really Bad Circumstances Because Eric Carr Passed Away”

May 19th 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the brilliant KISS  Revenge album. has marked the passing of this landmark  record with a series of interviews conducted over the last few weeks.  Our first four parts focused on the lesser known heroes of the Revenge  album as well as former KISS guitarist, Bruce Kulick. In this, our fifth  and final installment, we focus our attention to current KISS drummer,  Eric Singer. He first came to prominence with KISS as ‘the new guy’ on  the Revenge album. caught up with the veteran drummer  (who is gearing up to hit the road with the band on their The Tour with  MÖTLEY CRÜE) for his comments on the album that started his career with  the band. Tommy Thayer recently mentioned that he did background vocals on Revenge.

Eric Singer: “Yup. I was there when he did it. I did it with him and (I think) Jaime St. James and somebody else was there. I think Tommy has a co-write on one of the songs on the record. If I remember, when I did the record... I did the drum tracks in two sessions and then I went on tour with ALICE COOPER right away the next day - after I did the second batch of songs. When I came back months later (after the tour) they were doing overdubs and mixing... I wasn’t there when Bruce was doing lead solos and the vocals, but I was there when we did some background vocals and I remember us doing it. I remember me going in a recording a gong for the very end of ‘Unholy’. I recorded two different size gongs to try and get this ‘wall of sound’. The idea of me wanting to do the gong came from me being such a huge QUEEN fan and Queen geek... ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ - the last line ‘any way the winds blows’ and the big gong at the end. That’s where I got the idea. I always thought that was such a great effect. We actually did that on one of the songs on the new record, Monster, as well. The thing ends with a big gong. We love the production stuff and Queen is my favorite band, so I’m biased.”

Shannon Tweed Burns Gene Simmons’ Nudie Pictures On ‘Family Jewels’ Season Premiere

The eighth season of ‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels’ kicked off with flames tonight (May 28) on the A&E Network, as the Demon’s new wife, Shannon Tweed, set his prized photo collection of previous sexual conquests on fire.

The episode centered on Simmons and Tweed adjusting to their new life as a married couple. In the opening scene, the couple are in one-on-one sessions with their therapist, Dr. Ann Wexler. Simmons tells her that married life is “wonderful.” Tweed says that Simmons is acting differently, but still has a lot to learn. She still doesn’t trust her new husband, even though he is making strides, which Gene admits is a struggle. “There are cloudy days and there are sunshine days, but every day is a good day,” he says.

Following the session, the Simmons family, including their children, Nick and Sophie, discuss the changes in their relationship, with Nick and Sophie describing their parents’ sex life in awkward detail. Still, their public displays of affection surprises Nick, who makes several smart-aleck remarks about how they’re behaving in the reverse of other couples, who begin hating each other after the marriage.

Simmons brings in a giant blow-up of the photo of the family at their wedding, much to the surprise of the other three. Although they are happy that Gene is showing a commitment to the family like never before, the size of the photo is embarrassing to them and Shannon says that it will not be displayed in the house.

Over lunch with a friend, Shannon talks about the possibility of adoption, which is the main plot of this episode and an arc for the season. Shannon then tells Wexler that she has always wanted to adopt, even after the births of Nick and Sophie. She’s worried about the changes that it will bring to the family dynamic, but she feels that, with Nick and Sophie grown, she still needs an outlet for her maternal instincts.

After having difficulty finding the right time to bring up the subject, Shannon finally confronts Gene about her desire. “Two is not enough?” Gene asks. As it turns out, a woman from an adoption agency, Robyn Harrod, is waiting downstairs to speak with the couple about it. Harrod also brings up the idea of being a foster parent, and tells them about the differences between adoption and raising children of your own. Without explicitly saying he’s against it, Gene’s lack of enthusiasm for the idea tips Shannon off.

The third act found Gene in Wexler’s office discussing Shannon’s wishes, admits that it’s all happened so fast that he hasn’t had time to think about it. But you can still sense that he doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Later, the couple discuss it in their bedroom, where Shannon says that Gene’s life as a rock star is still moving forward, but hers, as a mother, has stagnated. Gene, clad in Kiss pajamas, says he’s willing to financially support 100 children, but isn’t sure if he wants the emotional commitment at this stage in his life.

Later, while moving boxes of keepsakes in their garage, Shannon finds a mysterious set of keys. Unable to find the proper lock, she asks a friend how she should confront Gene. After a session with Wexler, she confronts him in his office about the keys. He admits that it’s the key to a safe-deposit box containing his famous collection of photos of the many women that he has been with. Although the photos are no secret, Shannon basically tells him that they have no place in their marriage, and that if she will destroy the photos if he won’t.

Gene tells Wexler the origin of the photos, that they started as a result of his newfound fame since he didn’t drink or do drugs. “They then became trophies,” he says, saying that they were no different than new pieces of Kiss merchandise.

Late in the show, a third plot develops over Sophie’s new boyfriend, with Shannon trying to give her daughter the benefit of her experience. Talking to Wexler, Shannon says how proud she is of her daughter. She also expresses dismay that Gene’s past keeps coming into their marriage, and they is worried that these revelations are affecting her desire to adopt. This is reinforced when Harrod calls the house to tell Shannon that an orientation for adoption is coming soon, but Shannon says she’ll have to miss this one.

Gene feels “embarrassed and ashamed” for getting caught. She wonders why he kept them, through all the years of the relationship and the births of their children. He knows he’s in the wrong and tells her that, whenever she gives the word, they will go to the safe-deposit box and dispose of the photos forever.

In a couples session with Wexler, Gene and Shannon discuss the photos. He admits that there was never any emotional connection to the women, and that he would feel emasculated if Shannon brought pictures of her ex-boyfriends into the home. As the session goes on, we see them going to the bank to pick up the portfolios. The show ends with Shannon lighting them on fire as Gene watches.

Next week’s episode will center on Shannon asking Nick and Sophie for their thoughts about the adoption

Rare 1974 KISS Promo Poster Sells For $1500 On EBay

www, / Karen 'Gilly' Laney

When Kiss shipped their 1974 debut album out to radio stations, it included a little something extra in the form of a full color poster of the band. Nearly 40 years later, that one-time freebie courtesy of Casablanca Records & Tapes has a collector’s value of at least $1500, based on the one that recently sold on eBay.

This poster goes to prove that branding has always been important to Kiss. Though Gene Simmons and company have since taken that idea to extremes, Kiss has always been exceptionally clever in marketing themselves. Can you imagine a disc jockey or record store owner in a remote town opening up a promo package, finding a white label promo album that included this poster with it? This poster could have very well been the first image they saw of the band, and chances are they wanted to hear what these four boys in make-up sounded like. Mission accomplished.

Due to the way it was originally shipped, the seller notes that every copy of this poster has crease marks in it — in fact, if it doesn’t, it’s likely a reproduction. This particular poster was purchased at a Kiss convention in the early ‘90s and though it does have the fold lines, it’s been in a frame since that purchase date. The listing notes a few minor flaws but overall this rarity appears in very good condition. Good enough to pay $1500 for? Apparently!

New Roadie Paul Jordan's Letter To KISS

Here's the letter that Paul Jordan submitted along with his resume when applying for the KISS Roadie gig.

"I retired on November 1, 2010. My last job was a Squad Trainer at the Basic Officer Leader Course. I was an Infantry Squad Leader on the two deployments to Iraq and was a marksmanship instructor on my short stint in Afghanistan. This job would mean the world to me. To be able to stand off stage and point to the greatest, legendary rock show of all time and say that I helped create it, is more than I can put into words. I have been a fan since I was four years old(1975). A neighbor kid came over and snuck the KISS Alive! album under his jacket and into my room. He pulled it out and we played it on my little plastic record player. Back then, parents considered KISS dangerous for kids to like. But I was hooked and that is all I ever asked for at Christmas and birthdays. I have seen them six times, including their 1997 Reunion Tour in Budapest, Hungary. I also have Gene Simmons tattooed on my chest(see enclosed pic). This would be a dream job for me."

Gene Simmons Crashes 'RapFix Live'

Get More: Music News / Nadeska Alexis
The best thing about a live show (and sometimes the worst things about a live show--though not in this case) is that you never know what, or who, will happen. This time it was Kiss frontman Gene Simmons who walked right onto the "RapFix Live" set during Wednesday's episode, after his concluding his own interview in another studio nearby. Let's just say Simmons made an impression during his brief appearance, but we wouldn't expect anything less.

First off, Rocky's reaction to Gene Simmons was priceless. Only one word necessary: "wow." The Harlem rapper was pleasantly surprised by the appearance, offering Simmons to shake his hand and he must've gotten more than he bargained for in the response. "A$AP you're a powerful and attractive man," Simmons told him, asking for a full handshake--"I'm not that pale, come on, give me the whole thing"--before adding, "You sir, are gonna be very popular in jail."

Oh, to be Sway in this moment.

After making his presence felt, Simmons, who is heading out on tour soon with Kiss and Motley Crue, said his gracious goodbyes. "I wish you luck--make a lot of money and gimme all of it."Rocky took it all in stride, still shocked that the Kiss singer had just breezed through. Plus, he was feeling the style. "You've gotta love that guy. I dont like the jail comment though, but other than that I'm honored."

KISS Hires Army Vet To Be A Roadie For 2012 Tour

There’s the U.S. Army and there’s the KISS Army.

One is a branch of the United States military while the other is the fan club of the legendary rock band that first rose to prominence in the 1970s.

A veteran of both armies, Paul Jordan can look forward to spending time with the band as a roadie on its 44-city tour with Mötley Crüe.

A lifelong fan, Jordan beat out more than 1,900 other hopefuls who applied for the job as part of the Hiring Our Heroes program. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and NBC News kicked off the initiative in March to help veterans and military spouses find employment.

KISS was one of the organizations that signed up for the program. Bassist and singer Gene Simmons broke the news to Jordan during an appearance on the Today Show on May 23. Jordan served more than 27 years in the Army, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan three times.

Jordan, who will be a carpenter on the tour, shared his experience of looking for work during the Today Show appearance:

“Since I retired, I’ve had a really hard time trying to find a job,” Paul told the Today anchors. “It’s tough for veterans out there sometimes.” He called the KISS roadie job a “dream come true. I’ve always wanted to be involved with KISS somehow … This is incredible!”

The goal of Hiring Our Heroes is to have the business community commit to hiring 500,000 veterans by the end of 2014. To date, the campaign has received more than 181,000 commitments.

Gene Simmons Offers U.S. Veteran A Job

Kind-hearted rocker Gene Simmons has offered one lucky U.S. war veteran his dream job of joining KISS as a road crew member on their upcoming tour.

The hitmaker and his band are set to kick off their summer tour with Motley Crue in July, and, in a bid to give back to retired members of the armed forces, he launched a contest to find one die-hard fan in need of work. And on Wednesday Simmons unveiled his new employee on U.S. breakfast show Today – in a bid encourage other Americans to lend a hand to struggling veterans.

Introducing Paul Jordan as the winner, Simmons said, “Here’s a gentleman who’s had three tours of duty voluntarily. Paul has been in Iraq and Afghanistan three times. He’s volunteered to risk his life for you and I. He’s been wounded twice. He’s been in the U.S. Army (for) 22 years – voluntarily. If you don’t give him a round of applause now I’m gonna find out where you live.”

And Jordan was elated: “(It’s a) dream come true! I’ve always wanted to be involved with KISS somehow. I mean I’ve been a fan since I was four-years-old.”

Simmons signed off, adding, “Our heroes go and represent us on the field of the battle, voluntarily, and then they come back and we throw them back out: ‘Here, good luck, go get a job.’ They should have guaranteed jobs… Give them a job, it’s the least you can do.”

KISS - 20 Years Of Revenge Part III; Bob Ezrin's "Go-To Guy" Dick Wagner

The evening featured film documentaries on BG James B. Thayer Sr.'s career, and the History of the Oregon Military. A live auction that included a KISS-autographed guitar and KISS Concert package raised over $185K. The night culminated with a live performance by the Patrick Lamb Band that featured KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer joining in on several songs.

Today In KISStory - 1980

Today In KISStory - May 20, 1980: KISS releases "Unmasked".

At the time it was the last studio album from the original lineup of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, although Criss actually had no involvement with the recording of the album. Anton Fig (uncredited) played all drums on the album. This album marked another departure for Kiss: this was the first album since 1977's Love Gun  not to feature all members on vocals, excluding the four solo releases in 1978.

Although Unmasked marked a major departure musically for the band, the album reached #35 on the U.S. Billboard chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA on July 30, 1980.

Today In KISStory - 1993

On this day in KISSTORY - May 18th, 1993, KISS featuring Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Bruce Kulick were inducted into Hollywood's famed RockWalk. At the ceremony in front of fans, friends and family, Paul, Gene and Bruce spoke to the crowd and then left impressions of their hand prints in a block of cement. After adding plates of the KISS logo and their signatures, the stone plaque was later added to RockWalk located at the site of the famed Oriental Theatre now Guitar Center Hollywood. Eric Carr was posthumously inducted into the Rock Walk in 1995 and added to the KISS plaque.

Visit RockWalk's website at and look up KISS under inductees for some more photos of the induction as well as photos of some of RockWalk's KISS memorabilia including an Ace Frehley Les Paul guitar, Peter Criss' boots and Paul Stanley's Iceman guitar and boots.

Dedicated to honoring those individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the music industry, Hollywood's RockWalk became a reality on November 13, 1985. At last, the Rock 'n Roll world could claim for itself an institution every bit as compelling as Mann's Chinese Theatre, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Hollywood's RockWalk has honored such creatively diverse and equally as accomplished individuals and groups such as KISS, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Johnny Cash, Dick Clark, Willie Dixon, The Doobie Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, Les Paul, John Lee Hooker, The Moody Blues, Phil Ramone and Smokey Robinson.
