Gene Simmons Family Jewels TV Ratings - Week 2

(03/31/10) Gene Simmons Family Jewels is still a hit for A&E.

The second week of Gene Simmons Family Jewels (episodes #2 & #3) grew from last week's season 5 premiere episode. Growth in a second week of a season is not very common in TV. Even the best shows see about a 10% drop in a second week, after a premiere. But GSFJ grew about 10% over the hour.

At 9pm (Waiting Is The Hardest Part) drew 1.756 million viewers, a Household rating of 1.1 and a 2 share and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. at 9:30pm (The Demon Turns 60) increased to 1.947 million viewers, 1.3/2 household rating/share and a solid 1.0 demo rating.

"Taking Dawn" To Support KISS In The UK

Taking Dawn MySpace

Roadrunner’s hottest new band, TAKING DAWN are thrilled to announce that they will be supporting the mighty KISS on their forthcoming UK arena tour this May. The Las Vegas four-piece are currently tearing up the boards with labelmates Airbourne on their tour across Europe and release their debut album, ‘Time To Burn’ on 12th April. The album is already available digitally via i-Tunes and all good digital stores, and you can also check out the video for the title track here:

Frontman and guitarist, Chris Babbitt is super excited at the prospect of the KISS tour, enthusing: “I still think my guys are fucking with me. Isn’t Ashton Kutcher supposed to punk only famous people? Not even in 100,000 years did I think we’d really be opening for KISS...especially after the third farewell tour! We’ve got our Love Gun locked and loaded, and can’t wait to strut the same stage as our heroes. This is such an honour it’s almost too overwhelming for words”.

SneaK Peek Of Sunday's Episode Of 'GSFJ'

On this week's episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Shannon travels to NY to join the KISS tour and spend quality time with Gene only to learn he has a prior commitment with a journalist. Gene sticks Shannon with his friend and native New Yorker, Tony, to ensure she doesn't take out her anger on his wallet. While Gene and the journalist take us through a never-before-seen tour of Gene's past (including the Jr. High stage where he performed for the first time,) Shannon saves the day when Tony loses his wife's anniversary present.

Started off day with biz meeting, someone pitching a new TV series. Then rehearsing with KISS for Euro leg of our 2 year long (!!!) tour.

Then stopped off to do VOICE for Fred Durst's Limp Bizkit -- new album, Gold Cobra.

At rehearsals for KISS Euro tour, ran into Randy Jackson. But first, went into the wrong room- full of (what looked like) Vegas Showgirls with plummage. Ouch.

People are asking, so I'm telling. If you want a GS Axe bass, the high end model goes for $5,000..signed and numbered. Go to

Ace Frehley Performs "Pain In The Neck" In Atlantic City

Here is some fan filmed-footage of Ace Frehley and his band performing "Pain in the Neck" at the House of Blues in Atlantic City on 3/20/2010.

Recording Ace Frehley's "Anomaly"

by Rich Tozzoli

Guitars, amps, mics and three different studios: how Ace recorded tracks for his latest.

On Anomaly, Ace used several engineers, since the project spanned a long period of time. Jay Messina (Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Kiss, Peter Frampton) tracked the drums and basics at Schoolhouse Studios in NYC to get things started. Then the drives went home to Ace In The Hole studios in Westchester, NY. There, Alex Salzman and I finished off most of the overdubs, along with Tim Hatfield. In L.A., Ace tracked “Fox On The Run” and mixed the project with Marty Frederiksen and Anthony Focx.

I kept thorough notes on what mics, amps and preamps were used on each song (as well as taking pics), so that if we came back to a song a month or more later, we could remember the setups. For most of the electric tracks, I used a Royer 122V tube ribbon mic or a Royer 121, along with either a Sennheiser MD 421 II or the classic Shure SM57. At first, we also used room mics, but they were rarely used in the mix, so we eventually just settled on close mics. Ace liked the mics to be right up on the speakers, which does provide some proximity bass and a very up-front sound.

The variety of amps included a Marshall JCM900 SL-X, Peavey 5150 II, Vox AC15, Fender Princeton, Twin Reverb, Bassman combo, Mesa/Boogie MK IV, and several others. Preamps were a mix and match of Universal Audio LA-610, Avalon VT 737sp, Earthworks 1024, and Focusrite ISA428, as well as some others.

When cutting acoustic parts, I’d use a variety of mics, from AKG 414s and Earthworks QTCs to a single AKG C 12 VR “The Tube” with a modified capsule. That was the primary vocal mic used on the record as well. We also used the DI output on any acoustics that had one, just to have the extra sonic options later.

For acoustic guitars, Alex used an ADK SC-T mic on the neck, with the AKG 414 on the body. He also used an esoteric Chinese Stellar tube condenser, as well as a Tech 21 SansAmp acoustic DI. He used mostly the Focusrite ISA428 and the UA 610 on the amps, capturing the sound with a pair of SM57s—one straight at the cone and one at a 45-degree angle next to it. The Peavey 5150 II was the primary head he recorded Ace with, but he also used a small Peavey Bandit amp for certain overdubs with a 57.

Gene Asks Ace To Rejoin KISS?

During Ace Frehley's recent appearance on Eddie Trunk's XM radio show, Ace claims that Gene Simmons called in to a radio interview to ask Ace to "rejoin the group as a reality television show". This apparently happened 3- 4 months ago. Ace doesn't seem phased about it at all.

Listen to Ace and Eddie discuss it out above. The topic comes up at 3 minute mark of the clip above. You can listen to the entire interview HERE.

KISS 2010 European Tour

With 35 dates across Europe, the "Sonic Boom Over Europe: From The Beginning To The Boom" is set to be THE rock event of 2010, building on the incredible success of the 2009 "Sonic Boom" album.

"Sonic Boom Over Europe: From The Beginning To The Boom" will see dates in Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, France, Spain, Belgium, Hungary and, not only will the tour feature KISS's first UK arena shows in 11 years, but it will see the band breaking new ground completely with their first-ever shows in Slovakia.

Acclaim for KISS on their recent spectacular, sell-out, "KISS Alive 35" North American tour has been universal. METAL HAMMER hailed the "Return Of The Kings!" MOJO declared: "A KISS show is as thrilling and bombastic now as it was in 1975."

Whilst utilizing elements of "KISS Alive 35", "Sonic Boom Over Europe: From The Beginning To The Boom" will be a fresh, new show tailored to the bands European fans and showcasing the brand new "Sonic Boom" album.

Widely acclaimed as another KISS classic, "Sonic Boom" rocked Planet Earth when it debuted worldwide and burned up the charts - the album is also the highest charting album of KISS' career in the USA.

Paul Stanley says, "The 'KISS Alive 35 Tour' was just the start. 'Sonic Boom Over Europe' leaves that show in the dust. New stage, new setlist, new outfits, new album! We're covering the whole musical history of the band on a stage that takes KISS one giant step further in our eight inch heels. We're stoked. You wanted the best? You GOT the best!"

Gene Simmons says, "Now. More than ever. KISS is a four wheel drive monster truck. Our mission? To rock Planet Earth. To spread the gospel of Sonic Boom."

Sneak Peek: Gene Simmons Family Jewels - “The Demon Turns 60”

Shannon is convinced the Gene’s pleas to not celebrate his 60th birthday are just cries for attention so she and Paul Stanley plan a huge bash - which Gene almost misses when he decides to travel for business on his big day. The episode marks the first time all of KISS appear on the show.

“The Demon Turns 60” – airs this Sunday at 9:30pm EST. Here are some picture's of Gene's birthday bash:

Paul Stanley: Doc McGhee Is Not Managing Guns N' Roses

Singer Axl Rose recently revealed via Twitter that GUNS N' ROSES is now managed by Doc McGhee, who has handled the careers of BON JOVI, MÖTLEY CRÜE and KISS throughout the years. There is one problem, however — McGhee was apparently never told of the arrangement.

In the brand new issue of Classic Rock magazine, which goes on sale next Wednesday (March 31), KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley was asked if McGhee was still KISS' manager in light of the reports that Doc was now representing GUNS N' ROSES. "That's been very funny," Paul replied. "A few weeks ago I said to Doc: 'It would've been nice if you'd told us.' Doc replied: 'I had nothing to to do with it.'"

Stanley added, "Axl has decided, from what I understand, that Doc is his manager. That's a one-way agreement. because Doc is not managing GUNS N' ROSES. One day he certainly might but he's not right now. And he definitely is still our manager."

Neither GUNS N' ROSES nor Axl Rose is listed as a client on McGhee Entertainment's official web site.

As previously reported, Rose is being sued by Front Line Management, which claims the singer owes the company nearly $2 million in unpaid commissions.

Tommy Thayer Interviewed By Hughes and Kettner

Hughes and Kettner

Tommy Thayer was interviewed by Hughes and Kettner just before KISS' famous club gig at the O2 Academy Islington in London on Tuesday, March 2.

During the interview, Tommy mentions that KISS will tour the US again after the European tour and that the plan is to play also in New Zealand, Australia, and Japan before the end of 2010.

Thayer found his amp of choice in the Hughes & Kettner Duotone. In fact, he was so enthused to chance upon an amp so good that he put his name on a Duotone signature series model. It now adorns the amp's shining blue Plexiglas front panel, alongside his official KISS logo. Adding a stylish cosmetic touch, the amp and the matching signature edition cabinet (CC 412 A30 SE) are decked out in a highest-quality faux croc leather covering.

1977 Marvel Comic Proof Sheets On Ebay

These are the ORIGINAL 1977 proof sheets for the first KISS MARVEL Comic Book. These two vintage pieces of 11” x 17” paperwork contain the original first draft version of Steve Gerber’s historic “Blood On The Plates” article (which appeared in the comic book) with handwritten corrections by Howard Marks Advertising Copy Editor and KISS: The Real Story Author Peggy Tomarkin.

You can see firsthand, where in the 1970s, no detail was too small for the KISS organization, including the running order of the KISS band members names; which was corrected from “Gene, Ace, Paul and Pete” to “Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace.” This AMAZING one-of-a-kind collectable is the only copy in the world and shows that even in 1977 Gene and Paul were favored, by the powers that be, as the lead members of KISS. This first draft is quite different from what appeared in the final version of the comic book.

Ferguson Valley artist Joyce Hatchett has given her latest creation a real rock n roll flavor.

As one of the 80 artists commissioned to be part of the Cow parade in Margaret River, Mrs. Hatchett unleashed her inner rock star to create an eye catching KISS cow, complete with make-op and body armor, that bass player Gene $immons would be proud of.

Titled 'Moose Mania-KISS Cow', Mrs. Hatchett said she had an absolute ball designing and creating the heavy metal bovine with some help from her husband to put on the finishing touches.

"My husband was enlisted to do the labor of love stuff like cutting the metal (donated by Grenville Hall of Allfab Engineering) and bolting all the bits onto the cow," Mrs. Hatchett said.

"He (Douglas) used to say one artist in the family was enough however, he appears to have changed his mind of late."

Mrs. Hatchett said it was great working with nuts, bolts, metal and many other bits and pieces which sparked an inspiring new type of art for her to work on.

"I am grateful to Radio West for commissioning me to complete this rather unusual piece of art," she said.

"The huge bonus is that this bovine amongst others will be auctioned off for charity which I think is just fabulous."

Joyce Hatchett's KISS cow will be on display at the Art GEO complex in Busselton's main street for the duration of the Cow Parade Festival.

More than 300,000 visitors are expected to see the cows during the three-month duration event
